Welcome to the “Learn new spellingโ course.
Try 3 activities, they each take only 10 minutes a day.
This course will help you support a dyslexic child to read, write and spell new words.
How to learn new spellings
Dyslexic children learn best by using all their senses.
Dyslexic children can need to learn a new word up to 10 x times.
Multi-sensory learning can help a child learn the same word in ten different ways by engaging all their senses. These include:
- Hearing
- Seeing
- Moving Body
- Touching
- Speaking
- Smelling
The image below features an illustration of the senses used in multi-sensory learning.

About learn new spellings activities
Talking about dyslexia can help a child understand how it will affect them and relieve anxiety.
The activities below are designed to help you do this.
The three activities take just 10 minutes per day. They can be completed using the links to the activities taken from Mooki cards.
Follow the top tips below when completing the activities with a dyslexic child:
- Aim to try all three quizzes in 1 week, what days will you do the tasks?
- Do them with the child in a quiet place with no distractions.
- Do each quiz on different days to stop the child becoming overwhelmed.
Start by choosing 3 new words to learn!
Choose 3 new words from the list below for the child to learn, as taken from the 100 crucial word list.
- the
- she
- said
- down
- three
- today
- little
- because
If you can teach a child to learn just 3 new words, you will have the tools to help them learn more.
If the child can already read, write, and spell these words, use more from the ‘100 words every child needs to learn‘ list.
