Welcome to the “Understand Dyslexia”ย course.

Try 3ย activities,ย theyย each take onlyย 10 minutesย aย day.

This course will help you talk about dyslexia with a child in order to:

  • Answer common questions the child may have about dyslexia.
  • Give the child true facts about dyslexia that you can trust.
  • Inspire the child by showing them great things they could achieve.

What is Dyslexia?

Start by learning the facts about dyslexia to help a child understand how dyslexia may affect their reading, writing and behaviour.

The child may be confused by dyslexia, they may think it is a bad thing and hear untrue things about dyslexia at school.

Learning the facts below can make it easier to explain dyslexia to a child:

  • 10% of people dyslexia.
  • It is a brain processing issue.
  • It affects writing and memory
  • There is no cure for dyslexia.
  • Dyslexia is caused by genetics
  • It does not effect intelligence.

About understanding dyslexia activities

Talking about dyslexia can help a child understand how it will affect them and relieve anxiety.

The activities below are designed to help you do this.

The three activities take just 10 minutes per day. They can be completed using the links to the activities taken from Mooki cards.

Follow the top tips below when completing the activities with a dyslexic child:

  • Aim to try all three quizzes in 1 week, what days will you do the tasks?
  • Do them with the child in a quiet place with no distractions.
  • Do each quiz on different days to stop the child becoming overwhelmed.

Remember to focus on the strengths of being dyslexic and the great things the child can achieve.

Activity 3: Superpower People

This activity will help to inspire the dyslexic child by giving them examples of great things dyslexic people have achieved.

  • Give the child a chance to answer the questions first, before giving them the answers.
