Foundations of Reading
When children learn to read, they break words down into sounds and letters (phonics).
The reading staircase is used to help children learn to read, by breaking down words. The steps include practising:
- Syllables
- Rhyming
- Alliterations
- Onset-rime
- Sound Identification
- Blending Sounds
Children learn best by practising each step on the reading staircase before moving onto the next.
Top Tips Course
The fun games take just 10 mins per day:
- Aim to play 3 fun games in 1 week, what days will you play?
- Get into a routine, for example playing after dinner.
- Do each game on different days, to stop the child becoming overwhelmed.
Get involved and playing the games together, so the child does not even know they are learning.
